Key Performance Indicators for Science Centres

In the evolving landscape of science centers, measuring success through KPIs is essential for sustainability, impact, and innovation. Funders and government around the world are asking for meaningful indicators to measure our success and plan for the future. This World Café discussion aims to bring together professionals from Science Centres and museums to explore best practices in defining and applying KPIs that align with institutional goals. Participants will share strategies for evaluating visitor engagement, educational impact, operational efficiency, STEM equity and financial health. By fostering dialogue, this session will help establish benchmarks and identify areas for growth in science centers worldwide.

A panel will provide a 20 min presentation and discussion that outlines research on institutional KPIs. Each table will be led by an expert and will cover one of the five topics, and participants will spend 15 min at each table, allowing for one rotation. A summary of commonly used KPIs and a list of non-traditional KPIs will be available to kickstart conversations. Participants are encouraged to bring KPIs that their institutions are measuring to the table discussion.
